The Community Grants Committee of the SSVMSA provides grants to 501(c)3 organizations from $2,500 to $10,000. Projects and Programs must relate to the advancement of community health or health education and exist within the Greater Sacramento Metro Region. Please review the application and guidelines for 2010 to carefully assure the appropriateness of your application and to review specific submission instructions.

2010 Community Grant Recipients


Sacramento Food Bank
$6,000 used to:

Expand and enhance nutrition education through their mobile distribution centers, provide onsite preventative health screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes and information on nutrition, safe food preparation, and culturally sensitive recipes.


Ronald McDonald House
$5,000 used to:

Subsidize the cost of stay for families with children hospitalized in Sacramento area hospitals with life threatening illnesses who reside more than 30 miles away.

Sacramento Children's Home
$2,500 used to:

Purchase medical instruments for intake examinations for children in crisis entering the residential facility. Over 3,700 children received consistent, timely medical care last year.

Food Bank of Yolo County
$6,000 used to:

Purchase reusable containers to deliver food to the hundreds of families who receive 25 lbs of staple foods each month.

Stanford Settlement
$2,675 used to:

Provide funding for Senior Health and information fair, which will provide free health screenings, first aid kits, and education regarding resources for well being and assistance to help seniors remain at home.

WEAVE
$1,575 used to:

Purchase TB Vials for use at their Safehouse to comply with mandatory TB testing requirements

Clean and Sober
$1,250 used to:

Provide running shoes, sox, water bottles, 5K entrance fees for 25+ sober individuals to promote health, build confidence and provide hope to those struggling with addiction.

Clean & Sober "On the Road to Health", $2,650 used to:

(1) Provide Running shoes, sweats, socks for their newly started "running club" to promote health, provide education, and building self-esteem and sense of community.
(2) Provide transportation costs (bus passes) to medical appointments.

Diogenes Youth Services
$10,000 used to:

Purchase a used van that will assist the 175 youths served at their crisis center.

Loaves and Fishes Mary House
$7,300 used to:

Purchase washer and dryer to replace 20 year old units which run nine hours daily to provide laundered towels and washcloths for the 80-100 homeless women who shower at this day-shelter each weekday.

YWCA
$1,150 used to:

Support the ENCOREplus Breast Cancer Program in purchasing Self Breast Exam Models and brochures for Sacramento County.
